Our event that took place on Sunday, November 29, 2015 was a huge success. We had about 200 people in attendance and it was great to see all the people connected to the shul today, from the 2ks, '90s, 80's and 70s.

If you missed the opportunity to join in our Simcha, videos from the Torah Re-dedication Ceremony can be found on the FaceBook page

For those of you not on Facebook, click here for video presentations.

The escorting of a Torah scroll has its source in the procession of the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, led by King David. As described in the Book of Samuel, this event was marked by dancing and the playing of musical instruments.[9] Both the kohanim and David himself "danced before the Ark" or "danced before the Lord".[1][10]

The inauguration ceremony is held for new and restored Torah scrolls alike.[11] It is also held when a synagogue moves to a new location,[12][13][14] or when scrolls are transferred from one institution to another.[15]

Below you will find photos of the family members connected to the Sifrei Torah and the synagogue.

If you weren't able to attend, you can read about the story in the November 19, 2015 issue: The Jewish Standard: Torah Tales from Paterson: Restored Scrolls Tell Stories of Past Dedications

[I happen to love this article since it unlocks a lot of the stories that have unfolded since embarking on this Torah restoration project]

Here is Chaya (Ida) Goldberg, who commissioned & dedicated the Sefer Torah, approx 5-9 years after this picture was taken.  This is David Goldberg, on the left, age 5; his older brother, Morris, age 8.  Probably taken in their Paterson home, circa 1919
